Unhappily Ever After: Can You Avoid a Covid-19 Induced Divorce?

Dry cough, fever, and shortness of breath. Health officials have beaten this trifecta of symptoms into our heads to help us know if we might have contracted Covid-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. Many of us fear developing a severe case, one that will lead to us needing life support or worse — death. Knowing the symptoms has us evaluating random coughs, second-guessing our normal indigestion, and even imagining feeling feverish after a trip to the grocery store. It’s no secret that we are on edge as time in isolation stretches on, making our fearful behavior a new normal.

What’s even scarier for some of us is another set of symptoms that emerged since the outbreak sent us indoors: Little-to-no teamwork, feeling emotionally unsafe to really talk, and a desire to be stuck inside with just about anyone other than your spouse right now are symptoms that could signal that a separation or divorce is on the horizon. Luckily, relationship experts know that you’re climbing up the walls inside your home.
